One of our ultimate favourites, Lionel Richie, will be gracing Manchester Arena with his All The Hits Tour this June.

While we could use various puns about how the audience will be ‘dancing on the ceiling’ ‘all night long’ (okay, we have used these before, they’re too good not to), we decided instead to honour the star with five facts that you didn’t know about him.*

1. He can play the saxophone, keyboard and drums. Basically there is no end to Lionel’s talents

2.Lionel obviously has his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. It’s located at 7024 Hollywood Blvd for anyone who wants to go pay it a visit

3.Lionel didn’t originally plan on becoming the pop star that he is today. In fact he actually considered becoming an Episcopalian priest before discovering music

4.He was a very close friend of Michael Jackson, co-writing the song ‘We Are the World’ with him. MJ was also the godfather of Lionel’s daughter, Nicole Richie

5.The famous ‘All Night Long’ lyrics, ‘Tam bo li say de moi ya, hey jambo jambo’, are basically gibberish.¬†Apparently Lionel wanted to use an African phrase but when he realised there are 101 dialects and with time running out, he just made it up!
