7 reasons why we LOVE summer

The sun is finally shining and rumour has it that the UK is going to be hotter than Ibiza at the weekend so it’s fair to say we are buzzing and weekend plans for the rest of the summer are underway.

So in keeping with the sunny atmosphere, here are 7 reasons why we LOVE summer…

One word – Barbecue
The moment the sun appears we start thinking about the beloved BBQ. Mingling with friends while catching some rays and eating more than the weekly recommended calorific allowance – sounds perfect to us!

Spending the day outside, watching some of the biggest bands in the world perform live and discovering new favourites, festivals are undoubtedly a summer highlight. With Reading & Leeds Festival, OnBlackheath, Wireless and more, we’re spoilt for choice.

Is there a better feeling than packing your  sunnies, shorts and flip flops and boarding a flight for a Costa Del Cheap package holiday? Getting away for a week and relaxing (or partying) is what summer is about. Why not combine your getaway this year with a festival?

You can catch the likes of Bruce Springsteeen, Ariana Grande, Stereophonics and more at Rock In Rio Lisbon or experience the multi-genre music festival Colours of Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

Weekend exploring
Exploring the country is certainly easier and more enjoyable in the summer. There are so many weekend trips you can take and it’s the perfect time to get away from the city.

We’re looking forward to packing a picnic for a summer visit to Blenheim Palace in August for the first ever BBC Countryfile Live where we’re planning on spending the day soaking up the county fair atmosphere, watching farming in action and, of course, eating lots of yummy food.

(Pictured L- R) Countryfile presenters Anita Rani, John Craven, Matt Baker, Ellie Harrison, Tom Heap and Adam Henson pose in a sixteen foot “haystack” at Blenheim Palace, to promote BBC Countryfile Live, taking place at Blenheim Palace from 4th-7th August. For further information visit countryfilelive.com.  STRICTLY EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01AM ON MONDAY 18TH APRIL

Beer gardens
While keeping in with British traditions, we love being able to head to a local watering hole and kicking back with a nice, cold drink. In fact, is it 5pm yet?

Nude beaches
Now THAT got your attention didn’t it! Maybe not nude beaches, but beaches in general are awesome. You get to sunbath, have a little swim in the sea and it’s the law that you have to eat ice cream on a beach – what more could you ask for?

Summer events
Wimbledon, Chelsea Flower Show, open air cinemas, weddings, parties. The summer is the perfect sociable season, so make sure you make the most of it this year!
