The Kings of Leon are set to play at St James’ Park in May 2014
American rock stars Kings of Leon have announced they will play St James’ Park in the first of a series of gigs to be hosted by Newcastle United.
The club will bring the award-winning band from Tennesee, USA, to play on 31 May 2014 with tickets go on general sale from 9.00am Thursday 19 December.
Newcastle United finance director, John Irving, said: “We are delighted to bring such a big act as Kings of Leon to St. James’ Park for the first of what we hope will be a very long history of successful shows in the North-East.
“Kings of Leon are renowned across the world and playing host to one of their UK shows is a real coup for Newcastle as both a club and city.”
The multi Grammy and Brit award-winning rockers released their sixth album Mechanical Bull in September, scoring their fourth number one album in the UK.
The album has also received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album of 2013.
The band’s last appearance in the region was a sell out show in 2011 at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland and next year will be joined by a number of support acts still to be announced.
They are the first of a number of bands that Newcastle United will be bringing to the city over the next few years as the club attempts to make the stadium one of the premier venues in the country to see global acts.
Tickets go on general sale from 9.00am Thursday 19 December.
