Hans Zimmer is one of the most legendary Hollywood composers. From ’12 Years a Slave’ to ‘Thelma and Louise’, he has written some of the most iconic pieces of music ever known in film.
Here are our favourite Hans Zimmer scores!
Pirates of the Caribbean
‘Drink Up Me Hearties’ is the main theme from Disney’s award-winning ‘Pirates of the Carribean’ series and just one of the many pieces he created for it. Rumour has it that he’s often credited as Hans ‘Long John’ Zimmer when it comes to these movies!
The Lion King
You can’t beat a bit of Disney, especially when Zimmer is involved! ‘This Land’ is just one of the many pieces we all remember from the classic 1994 film ‘The Lion King’. While we can’t believe that Simba and co are more than 20 years old, we aren’t surprised that Zimmer picked up a number of gongs for it, including an Academy Award for Best Music for an Original Score!
Zimmer has collaborated with the great Christopher Nolan a number of times now with The Dark Knight Trilogy and his score ‘Time’ from Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio (please let this be the year he finally wins an Oscar) is one of the most memorable.
Guy Ritchie’s take on the famous Sherlock Holmes featuring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law was an instant hit, as was Zimmer’s ‘Discombobulate’.
‘Now We Are Free’ from Gladiator featuring Lisa Gerrard will have you feeling all sorts of emotions. Zimmer earned himself an Oscar and BAFTA nod for his work on the 2000 film, walking away with the Golden Globe for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture!
Hans Zimmer will be performing at Manchester Arena on Sunday 29th May where he will be joined by legendary guitarist Johnny Marr. Find your tickets here.
