The Apollo’s Glamorous Art Deco Past

With all this talk of how the newly refurbished Apollo is being restored to its Art Deco glory days; I thought it would be a good idea to see just what those glory days looked like.

Now a music and comedy venue the Hammersmith Apollo originally opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace cinema.

It was designed in the Art Deco style by renowned theatre architect Robert Cromie – and is considered one of the UK’s biggest and best-preserved Art Deco super cinemas.

The refurbishment will include the restoration of the original floor mosaic panels in the foyer. Credit: Hammersmith Apollo.
