One of the most important and influential British bands of all time, The Stone Roses, teased us all earlier this week after posters featuring their lemon logo began appearing around Manchester.
Would the band be coming back? Does this mean there will be new material from them? Will they be touring again?
Well one thing we do know for sure is that they will indeed be returning in 2016 with two shows at Manchester Etihad Stadium on June 17th and 18th, as well as a performance at T in the Park on July 8th at Strathallan Castle in Scotland.
Will Ian Brown, John Squire, Reni and Mani be releasing a new album as a collaboration? It would be the first studio album since 1994’s ‘Second Coming’ – perhaps they will even call it ‘Third Coming’?
That we can’t confirm. Rumours have been flying around that we can expect to hear some new tracks from the guys following the announcement of the summer shows, but this is nothing but work for the rumour mill so far.
Do they even need to release new material? With their debut, self-titled album as relevant today as it was when released over 25 years ago in 1989, undoubtedly being one of the most important in British music, we aren’t so sure.
We’d be happy either way – when it comes to legendary bands like The Stone Roses, all that matters is we have another chance to hear them perform live.
The Stone Roses tickets go on sale at 9.30am on Friday 6th November. Sign up here to the TicketAlarm to be alerted when they become available – you will only regret it if you don’t.
