After a £2million refurbishment staying true to its dance hall aesthetics, even keeping the old curved, bouncy floor, Manchester Ritz is quickly becoming the most picturesque place in Manchester to get your live music fix.
And it has a long history of bringing people and music together.
Since the 1990s The Ritz has pulled in the biggest artists of the day, like R.E.M., The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Adam And The Ants, Dropkick Murphys and more recently The Weeknd and Johnny Marr.
It is rumoured that the Legendary ‘Dancing in the Dark’ night at The Ritz is responsible for a whole generation in Manchester during the 50’s and 60’s, as radio presenter Fred Fielder explains:
“For the last dance of the evening the lights would go down. Couples would have a kiss and cuddle on the dance floor, end up going steady, then eventually getting married and have children.”
With the Manchester music scene hitting a high point in the 1980s and 90s, The Ritz hosted iconic artists like The Smiths and The Happy Mondays. It has been a venue for some of the best upcoming artists and established bands ever since.
Today The Ritz also hosts regular club nights for the vast Manchester student crowd.
Make sure you make time to experience this breathtaking venue. Take a look around below:
